My kids still go. I tend not to because I don't know half the bands anymore but I still looked at the lineup. Ours is held in Grant Park on the lakefront downtown Chicago. I am thinking of going to the Blues and Jazz fest though this year. Like you I am musically inclined too and appreciate fine acoustical mood music that utilizes instruments that aren't usually used...hence why I like Enya and Celtic Woman.
Musically I like everything except commercial chart pop.
All the way from Mozart and Mahler right through Mingus and Miles Davis to accoustic stuff like Joni Mitchell and James Taylor (and Mark Kozalek - if you havn't heard of him he's dismal but excellent) to completely over the top heavy rock.
But I have to admit I'm still at my happiest at a festival with 150,000 other people and lots of NOISE !!!
Maybe I'll grow up one day (but I'm not in a big hurry).

As a musician myself I'm frequently told off for complaining that other people's taste in music is tedious, mundane and middle of the road.
Now you can all complain about my taste.
This is how it should be done (and I'm not going to tell you who it is).

Very Enya.

Spoon's The Ghost of You Lingers
They are going to be at Lollapalooza Festival this August in Chicago....wanna meet me? They have great mood music like Enya.
Per chance is the red hooded woman the one on the cover of one of their Gimme Fiction Album?
Steamy,
Wow ! I'm amazed.
I'd love to meet you there but I think they'll be playing the UK too.
You know about Lollapalooza eh ?
And no - it's not the same woman (at least I don't think it is).

Steamy,
I saw Muse, Snow Patrol, Iggy and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs (and a load of others) at Lowlands in Holland last summer.
A "bit of a blast" would be an understatement.
This year I'm heading for "Croissant Neuf" and then - maybe - the festival 50 miles south of Barcelona (depending on a million other things).
I really fancy Lollapalloza though : I'll think about a visit to the States next year.
This year I'm booked up as far ahead as Xmas in Rome (and it just keeps on coming ; I suppose it's better than being bored and lonely).
xx
